Therapist Victoria Dunbar LPC Associate

VICTORIA DUNBAR LPC

Thank you for taking the time to visit my page and learn about me. I’m Victoria Dunbar, a Texas licensed professional counselor associate supervised by Cary Scott LPC-S. You may ask yourself, why seek counseling or wonder if you really need to see a therapist? I believe that it is important for everyone to pursue mental health treatment and support to improve overall wellness. It is NORMAL to have challenges coping with life's stress and to need support. Just as drinking water and eating healthy food nourishes your body; seeking therapy and utilizing support systems nourishes your mind. Understanding and practicing healthy habits and thought processing techniques, aid in building cognitive immunology. Both systems, mind and body, are not only connected but directly rely on each other to function at their best. With an eclectic approach I integrate several therapeutic techniques from cognitive behavior, dialectical behavior, solutions focused, emotion focused, existential, person centered and other methodologies depending on your needs. I have a passion for helping you by teaching and practicing coping skills to build emotional intelligence, personal resilience and improve interpersonal functioning.

I graduated from Frostburg State University in Maryland with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and an emphasis in Substance Abuse Counseling. I hold a minor in international studies. I moved to Okayama-Ken, Japan for about two years while teaching English to all ages. After returning to the States, I began my graduate studies at Hawai’i Pacific University in Honolulu, Hawaii earning a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. During my graduate studies I worked in the mental health field as a Mental Health Specialist in a variety of settings. I worked in residential, outpatient, partial programs, and acute inpatient services. I have experience counseling in inpatient forensic units and acute services for children, adolescents, and adults. Most recently, I was a therapist at Inova Fairfax Medical Campus in Virginia on the inpatient psychiatric unit. I am now transitioning into the private practice setting at Cary Scott Counseling, PLLC where I will utilize my diverse and vast experiences to meet the mental health needs of Rockwall and surrounding communities.

I believe that cultural sensitivity is a key component in genuine empathy. Through my immersion in other cultures I developed value in understanding cultural differences. To provide the most effective therapeutic skills to my clients, I consistently engage in continuing education courses. I stay informed on evidence-based treatment methods, practices and learn what is new in research studies. I am available for sessions via telehealth and in person. If you would like to make an appointment, please contact me at [email protected]. I look forward to hearing from you.
