I appreciate the saying, “Don’t judge a book by its cover.” My personal and professional life experiences have shown me that situations and experiences in life aren’t always as they seem. I have learned the value of patience and being non-judgmental. Each of our lives have their own unique story; a journey that is like a book waiting to be read, told page by page rather than judged with quick assumptions. I understand reservations that may come with reaching out for help. I know that taking that first step toward help is the start of opening a new book whose cover may not look very enticing. Reaching out and getting an appointment is like reading the first page. Before you know it you are several chapters in and find a very rewarding experience.
My story began, as an under-graduate of Texas A&M University-Commerce I completed my Bachelor of Science in Sociology with a minor in Counseling. During that time, I worked at a mental health community center in Sherman, TX as a Clinical Case Manager and received my certification as a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP). During this time, I had the opportunity to work with minors, adults, and caregivers evaluating and identifying their progress and making treatment adjustments to serve their individual needs. My work as a QMHP was rewarding and inspired me to pursue my work in mental health to becoming a professional counselor.
I am now in a new chapter of my career. As I approach the end of my Master’s Degree in Professional Counseling with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy, I am preparing to fulfill the requirements to being a Texas Licensed Professional Counselor. I currently work with adults who are struggling with relationships, life transitions, depression, anxiety, self-esteem, grief, and loss.
